Electric car parking in Prague: zones, charging, and private spaces
Electric-car parking in Prague has two separate questions: what parking rules apply to the vehicle, and where can you actually charge it? Do not treat a charging bay, a parking-zone discount, and a private parking space as the same thing.
Check the current city rules
Prague's official electric-vehicle parking page says the rules changed from 1 January 2026. Paid-zone parking applies to all vehicles, while zero-emission vehicles may qualify for a discount when they are registered in the city's system. A zero-emission vehicle means a vehicle powered exclusively by electricity or hydrogen; an EL registration plate does not automatically prove that status. Registration updates can take several days, so check before relying on a discount.
Separate parking from charging
A public charging point may have its own time, payment, and vehicle-use conditions. A private Figpark listing may provide a covered or secure space but no charger at all. Read the listing, ask the host if a charger is explicitly included, and never unplug another vehicle or use a private socket without permission. If you need a reliable charge before a departure, plan a backup rather than assuming every garage has the right connector.
Compare the whole trip
For a city visit, compare a legal paid zone, a P+R journey, a public garage, and a reserved private spot. A private space can remove the search for a bay, but it does not create a charging facility unless the listing says so. Use the Prague parking guide, district pages, and live map together.
