Parking host late-arrival guide: set a safe boundary

July 12, 2026 · Guides for hosts

Late arrival is easier to manage when the boundary was visible before the booking. A host should not be expected to keep a gate open indefinitely, and a driver should not discover the access limit only after reaching the street. Put the arrival window, gate process, and end time in the listing and confirmed instructions.

Define what the booking includes

State the latest normal arrival, whether the driver may enter after that time, and whether the vehicle can remain until a later departure. These are separate questions: a space may be available overnight while the gate is not staffed overnight. Explain the access method, lighting, waiting point, and any noise or neighbour constraint without publishing a permanent code or private phone number.

Respond with one safe next step

If a driver messages that they are late, confirm the current booking and ask them to stop in a legal, safe place while you check the available option. Do not ask them to tailgate another car, climb a gate, block a driveway, enter a residence, or leave the vehicle in a prohibited area. Keep the conversation in the supported booking channel where possible. The host access guide and access-failure plan help structure the response.

Do not improvise a new promise

If the original window no longer works, follow the current booking-change or cancellation terms. Do not promise a refund, extra hour, or new space outside the supported process unless you are authorised to do so. If the arrival is impossible, update the availability only after the existing booking is handled and the next driver will not inherit the same uncertainty.

Learn from repeated late arrivals

Record the factual timing and the question that caused confusion. If several drivers arrive late because the listing’s time zone, gate hours, or walking route is unclear, rewrite the information and add a visible buffer. A host who sets a reliable boundary protects privacy, neighbours, and the driver’s journey while keeping the offer bookable.
